A school for ALL children in Palestine

According to WHO, 85% of people with disability live in developing countries with a lack of resources and without possibilities of rehabilitation and re-education; they often live with their family in a serious condition of social marginalisation. Nevertheless the difficult situation, the Palestinian society highlights some positive factors: a common interest for the theme of disability, some experiences which experiment innovative paths, the presence of experts built in foreign universities who come back to their native land use the assimilated competences, the birth of little groups of civil society which compare on the theme of disability and its responsibility. The project “A school for all children: inclusive policy and disability in Palestine” is inspired to the principles of the Inclusive Education, in particular:

1. Children with disability have the right to attend the school with their mates and to participate to the life of their communities.
2. An inclusive society is a society in which differences are respected and valued.
3. Schools are places open to all children; for this reason they have to offer an adequate environment for their needs, eliminating the environmental and learning barriers.
4. Teachers have to adapt the curriculum and their style of teaching to the needs of children with disability and with learning disabilities.
5. Teachers have to increase the partnership with colleagues and specialists, sharing knowledge and experiences.

The project is addressed to the teachers of pre-schools and primary schools; it is composed by two formative sessions: the first is dedicated to autism; the second to sensorial and motor disabilities. In each session - after a theoretic introduction - there is a presentation of educative and rehabilitative interventions aimed to the scholastic integration.
The project is financed by the association ATS Pro Terra Sancta; the partners of the project are the Ats Pro Terra Sancta, IRCSS Eugenio Medea - La Nostra Famiglia, Anainsan-Palestine.
