Scholarships in Ethiopia

Academic Year 2018/2019

Università Cattolica, thanks to the funds of the 5 per mille collection and a donation from the Istituto di Studi Superiori Giuseppe, was able to grant a scholarship to the Ethiopian student Makeda Yohannes Seare to attend the second level Master in “Cultural Diplomacy: Arts and Media for International Relations and Global Communication” directed by Professor Federica Olivares at the University's Rome headquarters. Makeda was thus able to perfect her knowledge in the field of communication and international relations. The student, already graduated in Journalism in her country and responsible for social communication at the Ethiopian Episcopal Conference, was able to enhance the skills learned through the master to follow and better understand the process of reconciliation that led to the signing of the peace treaty between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

In an interview Makeda says: "Italian schools are very prestigious, providing an education with which I was able to improve my skills and contribute to the development of my country. I have always wanted to experience Italian life, also because of the historical link that unites our two countries. I am very happy and very grateful for these months". Cultural diplomacy is not only one of the tools for encouraging exchanges between countries, but a real opportunity for building ties and an opportunity for dialogue.
