Scholarships in Afghanistan

CeSI has been present in Afghanistan with population support activities since 2009. In the academic year 2013/2014, thanks to the funds of 5*1000 of the 2011 Declaration, it supported a young Afghan student, Akef Mussafer, who collaborated in the cycle of projects coordinated by Prof. Marco Lombardi in Herat. This support provided to cover the costs of enrolment in the three-year degree course in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the Milan branch of our University.

In an interview published in CattolicaNews, Akef tells his story and explains how the possibility of leaving for Italy came about: "I have been here for three years. In Afghanistan I worked for a company that gave logistical support to NATO troops and I came into contact with the Italians stationed there. I met the military chaplain and we became friends. I told him that I would have liked to attend a university abroad, even though I was already studying journalism in my country. Thanks to him, I had the chance to come to Italy and study the subject I like: Linguistic Sciences for International Relations. Journalists must be prepared about the world".
