The Community Outreach as a model to serve the women of the slum in the urban area of Kampala. Improvement strategies for the prevention and clinical management of HIV, TB and malaria
 

In line with Strategic Objective 1 "Maximize impact against HIV, TB and malaria" promoted by the Global Fund, actions, the project aims to contribute to the fight against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, TB, HIV and malaria in Uganda by promoting prevention and treatment pathways among women in the communities of Kireka and Kisenyi. 

The project is funded by tAgenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation).

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is the project leader.
Partners of the intervention are Fondazione Italia Uganda Onlus and the Benedict Medical Center Ltd. hospital in Kampala.


Activities foreseen are:

  • realization of 4 Community Outreaches open to the public;
  • laboratory analysis of diagnostic tests, communication of diagnostic test results, subdivision into groups of women subjected to tests based on the clinical picture and administration of appropriate therapies;
  • follow-up and clinical evaluation with two visits every six months, administration of new tests, communication results and evaluations on therapy.

 



The tenth volume published by the University Centre for International Solidarity in the ‘Quaderni del CeSI’ series is about "The 'Community Outreach'  as a model to serve women of the slum in the urban area of Kampala. Improvement strategies for the prevention and clinical management of HIV, TB and malaria". This volume aims to share the best practices adopted during the project in order to promote a debate on the role that university institutions can play in the context of development cooperation.

Community Outreaches

In the first year of the project, on September 24 and on November 25 2021, two community outreaches were held. More than 800 people (671 women) had free access medical care.
