BRIDGES IN AMMAN Places for the inclusion of Iraqi Christians in Jordan. An integrated system of medical and socio-educational services for minors and their families.
 

The project aims at promoting the inclusion of Iraqi Christian asylum seekers in Jordan and their families, acting on the development of the inclusive dimension of the Latin Patriarchate and informal schools and the creation of an integrated system of socioeducational and medical services in the urban area of Amman. The project started in April, 2021 and it lasts 24 months.

It foresees the realization of the following results:

  • Establishment of “Casa Sacro Cuore”, a multipurpose centre for children and families in Jabal AmmanThe project involves the purchase and the renovation of an abandoned building nearby Mar Yousef Parish in Jabal Amman to a multipurpose center where project’s activities can find a home.
  • Trainings on inclusive and innovative teaching strategies and activities for Iraqi Christian families and Jordanian familiesTrainings designed by Università Cattolica aim to share knowledge on inclusive education strategies and participatory teaching methodologies with Iraqi and Jordanian teachers and counselors. Lecturers and professors from university are involved also in promoting a cycle of meetings and workshops for families and psychoeducational workshops for minors.
  • Doctors and psychologists from Gemelli Medical Centre are engaged in conducting medical and psychological screening, reporting and taking in charge of the minors with special needs. Alongside an onthe-job training is provided to two local educators and a health education course on good health practices is foreseen for Iraqi women.

The partners

Habibi is an Association of Social Promotion that since 2013 promotes initiatives of social solidarity concerning the development and protection of the person and human rights. In last years HAVA has been working in Bethlehem and since 2016 in Jordan to support Iraqi families and the most vulnerable local communities.

GMC is a joint-stock company whose shareholders are: 99.9% Università Cattolica and 0.1% Istituto Toniolo. As part of the project, GMC coordinates and supports the activities connected to the detection of children with special needs through the realization of a clinical and psychological diagnostic screening for minors aimed at identifying disorders related to the behaviour and learning of the students in charge.

The project is realized with the strong support of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which supported the purchase of the building and promoted the participation of teachers and counselors at its schools in the training activities promoted by Università Cattolica.
