Il volume affronta il tema della procreazione ottenuta mediante tecnologie e le conseguenze antropologiche, culturali e sociali di questo fenomeno che avviene ormai da anni nelle società occidentali e che la collana Studi interdisciplinari sulla famiglia aveva colto, con largo anticipo, pubblicando, ben diciotto anni orsono, il testo intitolato "Famiglia generativa" o "famiglia riproduttiva"? Il dilemma etico nelle tecnologie di fecondazione assistita. In che senso il fatto procreativo è un fatto di natura? Quali i suoi limiti invalicabili? Se, e come, possiamo identificare le caratteristiche specie-specifiche del generare umano? Dove va posta l’origine del generare? Quali le possibili conseguenze del generare tecnologico, sia dal punto di vista del generante che del generato? Questi gli interrogativi, di assoluta rilevanza, al centro dei contributi di carattere teologico (card. Scola), filosofico (Botturi e Gomarasca), psicologico (Scabini, Cigoli), sociologico (Donati), bioetico (Palazzani), medico (Bellieni), giuridico (Nicolussi) che, nel loro articolarsi, offrono un apporto fondativo e analitico al dibattito odierno, superando l’angustia di tecnicismi e ideologismi per delineare un orizzonte culturale di senso che consenta di identificare la posta in gioco. Il testo consentirà agli studiosi, e a chi è quotidianamente a contatto con questi temi, di confrontarsi con una riflessività di ampio respiro in grado di offrire chiavi di lettura del fenomeno con riferimento alle dinamiche familiari e al loro svolgersi nel tempo.
This volume deals with the topic of assisted reproduction technologies and with the cultural, social, and anthropological implications of such a phenomenon that has spread across the Western societies over the past years. In what way is procreation a natural fact? What are its insurmountable limits? How, if possible, can we identify the species-specific features of human procreation? Where shall we place the origins of procreation? What might the possible consequences of reproductive technologies be both for the parents as well as for the children? These are the, extremely relevant, questions at the core of the theological (Card. Scola), philosophical (Botturi e Gomarasca), psychological (Scabini-Cigoli), sociological (Donati), ethical (Palazzani), medical (Bellieni), and legal (Nicolussi) contributions that make up the book. Those contributions attempt, each from their own specific perspective, to respond to such questions while providing an interesting and interdisciplinary cultural framework. Such a framework is nonetheless essential in times, like the ones we are living in, in which technology, disconnected from ends and values, appears as the sole reference point: if the goal of procreation is attainable by any means, then why not pursue it? The inability of acknowledging the specific nature and meaning of human procreation translates in an espulsion of procreation from its elective place, that is the family thus running the risk of overlapping and reducing generation to reproduction. This volume will provide scholars as well as those who are faced with these issues on a daily basis with grounds for a wider reflection while allowing them to understand the potential implications of dealing with human procreation by means of reproductive technologies.
