The "Julien Ries" Archive for Symbolic Anthropology organizes the XIV International Seminar dedicated to the theme Religion and War. The sacred and the fascination with violence. The relationship between religion, the sacred and violence has always been the subject of study and reflection, even if, unfortunately, current events seem to re-propose it today with particular force. In this regard, the aim of the Seminar is to reflect on the ambiguous and difficult relationship between religion and war, and more generally on how the relationship with violence has emerged and been practiced within different anthropological interpretations of the sacred.

"As soon as he becomes capable of leaving traces of his discourse, homo religiosus expresses his experience of relationship with the divine through the term sakros. The history of religions consists in making an inventory of all the traditions of this experience, of all the signs of the sacred lived by man. It is therefore a question of a total human science, because it leads back to the study of man in his totality, of man in his dimension of fulfilment. Man did not invent the sacred. He created the discourse on the sacred in order to be able to explain his religious experience."
