The "Julien Ries" Archive for Symbolic Anthropology organizes the XIII International Seminar dedicated to the theme of Apocalypse. End of the world or end of a world. The Seminar will reflect on how different religious perspectives have dealt with the theme of the end times, generating myths and narratives about the end of the world and the beginning of a new life, generally very different from the "everyday" one with its many limitations. The two figures of the origin and the end are essential to qualify the theme of "meaning" through which man tries to put in order the infinite events that cross his life: without a beginning and an end there would be no direction, there would be no "meaning". In this regard, the Seminar is ideally linked to the one held in 2016 and entitled The Drama of the Beginning. The origin of man in religions and will also mention the numerous "contemporary apocalypses" that are often debated.

The Seminar will take place in presence. To participate, write to the e-mail address archivio.ries@unicatt.it.

"The term eschatology dates back to the early nineteenth century and derives from the Greek ta eschata, "the last things". First used in theology to refer to the doctrine relating to the death of the human being, of the Judgment, of heaven, purgatory and hell, it has also found application in the history of religions, in the investigations of death and the afterlife within the different religions of humanity, where we find extensive documentation on the subject: death, funeral rituals, the fate of the dead, the conception of the afterlife and the rituals related to mourning carried out by those who survive."
