The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore joins the new edition of the UNICORE – University Corridors for RefugeeS

Along with 36 other Italian universities, the Università Cattolica is participating in the UNICORE – University Corridors for Refugees, an initiative promoted by UNHCR to offer 67 refugees the opportunity to safely and legally pursue a two-year master’s degree in Italy.

The UNICORE 7.0 project is supported by Italian universities, UNHCR, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Caritas Italiana, Diaconia Valdese, Centro Astalli, and other partners.

Its goal is to expand educational opportunities for refugees currently residing in Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe to continue their university studies in Italy.

Students selected in the UNICORE 7.0 project will benefit from:

  • Exemption from university fees
  • Free accommodation and meals
  • A monthly scholarship
  • Assistance with registration in the National Health Service and coverage of related costs
  • Support in navigating the bureaucratic procedures for obtaining a student residence permit
  • Academic guidance and tutoring
  • Medical and psychological assistance

The UNICORE 7.0 call for applications is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Are residing in Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and have been recognized refugee status in these countries in collaboration with UNHCR;
  • Hold a degree valid for admission to a Second Cycle Degree Programme;
  • Hold a degree obtained in or after 2020;
  • Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 according to the country of graduation tertiary education grading system or equivalent according to the comparable table issued by the Italian Ministry of Education;
  • Applicants must meet the specific admission requirements of their chosen master's program;
  • Have never been enrolled in a degree program at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore or any of the Partner Universities;
  • A minimum B2 level of English is required (or higher, if specified by the selected master's program);
  • Admission is based on a two-stage selection process: evaluation of academic qualifications; interview (only for those who pass the first stage).
