Goals

The action-research project, sponsored by the Support for Third Sector Volunteer Activities, intends to support family relationships put to the test by pandemic linked to the CoVID-19 virus and the discomfort of the lockdown. The research activity had the objective of learning about the situations faced by families, by family counselling operators and by associations dedicated to supporting families in order to identify some risk profiles, adaptation/innovation strategies and development prospects of the offer of help.

Methods

Online questionnaires via Qualtrics to heads of family counselling centres in Lombardy, heads of family associations and a sample of 300 families with children aged 6-17.

Results

The data show that about a third of the families in the sample received various types of help; among those who did not receive local/proximity aid we find two groups: a group of families "protected" by their socio-economic status (who probably did not need it and did not seek/ask for it) and about another third of the sample instead from more isolated families, who have suffered from various problems, but have not been able to get support (due to lack of information and answers or "inability to ask for help", perhaps also because they suddenly got into difficulty precisely because of the pandemic) . This group is characterized by gender (mothers), age of the target child (pre-adolescent), socio-economic status (medium-low) and territoriality (residence in small municipalities). The activities to strengthen the network, the objective of the Fare Rete project, can be directed towards these families.
