Goals

The Porte Aperte project, funded by the social enterprise “Con i Bambini” and active since 2018 in combating educational poverty, targets families with children up to 6 years old. Its goal is to strengthen the educational community.
The evaluation process used the logical framework approach, also leading to the re-design of the actions to be undertaken during the pandemic. The impact evaluation process has progressively introduced project staff to the Family Impact approach, laying the groundwork for integrating its five key principles into the project. This process has also gradually enabled professionals involved in the initiative to self-evaluate their own methods and practices.

Methods

Questionnaires, focus groups, Family Impact Checklists with staff members, planning based on the logical framework.

Results

Through focus groups, the strengths and weaknesses of the various project activities were identified. The Family Impact Lens principles were operationalized into five scales, which were administered as online questionnaires to all project staff.

These checklists highlighted the need to build integrated teams and support networks among services, as they appeared to be fragmented and inactive, except in emergency cases.

Another aspect requiring further implementation was working with families of foreign origin or with special needs. Training and the sharing of best practices to support these families remain suboptimal, indicating the need for further development in this area.
