On the occasion of the ‘Settimana del Dono’ (Week of Giving), an annual appointment traditionally held at the Piacenza campus of the Università Cattolica, the University Centre for International Solidarity is taking part in the initiative The Gift of Peace. In sixty years since Pacem in terris, conceived by the University Centre for the Social Doctrine of the Church on the 60th anniversary of the Encyclical Pacem in terris.
CeSI is taking part in the initiative with an open lecture held by Prof. Claudia ROTONDI and Prof. Walter MAGNONI on the theme ‘Peace and cooperation. The importance of witnesses yesterday and today'. The open lecture will be held on Wednesday 11 October from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in Room G.052 (Largo Gemelli, 1 - Milan).
The Gift of Peace. Sixty years after Pacem in Terris
The University Centre for the Social Doctrine of the Church, on the 60th anniversary of Pacem in Terris, wants to involve teachers and students in a reflection on war and peace starting from the teachings of the Social Magisterium.
The programme envisages eighteen open lectures, to be held from 2 to 12 October in the various venues of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan, Brescia, Piacenza and Rome). The lecturers and speakers will offer students, interested colleagues and external guests an in-depth study in which their own discipline enters into dialogue with the Social Magisterium, in the conviction that it is possible, as well as desirable, for the social doctrine of the Church to become part of the programme of ordinary lessons.
The period chosen for this initiative makes an ideal reference to the Day of Giving (4 October). The starting point for this proposal is the consolidated experience of the ‘Week of Giving’ traditionally held in Piacenza. Indeed, what gift is more desirable than peace?
