Bara ni Yiriwa - Work and Development in Mali
In December 2020 the project "Bara ni Yiriwa - Work and Development in Mali" started, with the aim of supporting the socio-economic development and the creation of job opportunities for Malian citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, internal displaced people and migrants. The project, coordinated by the Italian NGO Tamat and funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior, involves a wide net of partners: together with CeSI, Fondazione Iniziative e Studi sulla Multietnicità – ISMU, the two Malina NGOs Caritas Mali and Le Tonus, the Conseil des Maliens d’Italie (C.M.I), a Malian diaspora association in Italy, are involved in the activities.
The project activities will take place in the Cercle de Kati, not far from the capital Bamako. The activities are meant to meet the needs enlighted by the need analysis of the Malian context, where the 45% of the population lives under the threshold of poverty. the economic growth has slowed down for the third year and the migration rate is growing. The 4 main intervention areas are:
- training: courses to build competence and skills in line with the labor market demand;
- agriculture: strenghtening of the skills in the agicultural sector, especially on water, credit and environmental sustainability;
- entrepreneurship: deepening the managment and financial skills; facilitating the access to credit and input; training forcraftsmen required by the Malian labor market;
- migration: information on the risks of migration and on the resources already existing in Mali.
Università Cattolica is committed in the following activities: training and monitoring on income generating activities in agriculture; training on agri-food processing; monitoring of the project “Bara Ni Yiriwa”.
